Anxiety and anxiety related disorders can be extremely painful. Anxiety can come in different forms, such as negative and racing thoughts, racing heartbeat, hopelessness, anxiety attacks, panic attacks, shaking and unnecessary guilt.
It is important for people to show compassion towards others who are struggling with their mental health, even if they don’t understand exactly how the person is feeling. When someone opens up about their struggles with mental health, we need to show kindness and acceptance towards that person, even if we do not understand everything that they are feeling. Compassion can come in different ways, such as encouraging the person to go to therapy and spending time with them. By showing compassion, the person with anxiety may be more likely to accept themselves and feel safer knowing that they are accepted by others. They may then feel more comfortable with getting the help they need whether that is seeing a psychiatrist, talking to a therapist or both.
I’ve been fortunate in my life to receive support and acceptance from other people, especially when I struggle with my OCD and anxiety. I feel a lot safer emotionally knowing that people accept me. It helps a lot knowing that people support me in getting the help I need and will be there for me when I need them. I’ve been fortunate to receive support in a variety of ways including sending uplifting messages, people letting me talk to them about what I am experiencing, reassuring me that I am not a burden, spending time with me and encouraging me to see a counselor.
Thank you to those who are showing compassion and support to not only myself but others like me. You are making a difference.
